Hone Heke was a rangatira chief of NgaPuhi iwi in Northland. He was a strong and fearless warrior, and also an intelligent leader who fought for Maori rights during the British colonisation of Aotearoa, New Zealand. Hone Heke went to church because he had baptised a christian in 1835 and he also had much respect for the Missionaries. The Treaty of Waitangi was signed on 1840.
Hey Tangi
ReplyDeleteCongrats on completing another Summer Learning Journey activity! I really enjoyed reading your information report about Hone Heke. I had no idea that Hone Heke was baptised a christian. Would you want to live back in 1840?
Keep up the great work!

Kia ora Tangimetua,
ReplyDeleteAnother activity done and dusted I see - awesome work! :)
You've shared some great information about Hone Heke here, Tangi. I grew up in Northland and actually lived in the town where he cut down the British flagpole - cool huh? :)
Just a reminder to make sure you're reading the activity instructions carefully. If you go back to the Summer Learning Journey website and re-read this activity you'll see that we've asked you to share a whakataukī from the document provide. Have another go and I'll check back in soon to read it.
Thanks Tangi. :)
Mā te wā,
Mikey
